In the Business of Caring

Robbie Nathan and Care Consultants for the Aging are in the business of caring about people.  In 1991, Care Consultants for the Aging published their first “Eldercare Resource Handbook”.   Also since 1991, Care Consultants has been referring qualified companions, CNAs, and nurses to assist elderly men and women to help them stay independent in their own homes.  Now, Lincoln is on their 6th edition of the handbook, while Omaha is on its 9th edition, and Care Consultants have an office in Des Moines as well, all offices continuing to refer qualified caregivers.

Nathan has been with Care Consultants in Lincoln for eight years now. She has always enjoyed working with the elderly generation, and has made a career of speaking for elders when they can’t speak for themselves. In addition to working at Care Consultants, she is a member of the Coalition for Older Adult Life Health Promotion, the membership chair of the End of Life Coalition, and the Nebraska Aging Legislative Coalition—just to name a few! During her time with Care Consultants, Nathan has been able to see business double and an increase in quality and consistency of caregivers in Lincoln.

Many of the concerns Nathan and the staff at Care Consultants hear are transportation, respite, and financial needs.  The “Eldercare Resource Handbook” provides information and resources for all those concerns, in addition to living options, home health care, medical support, and senior services. The handbook answers many of the questions facing elder issues, and you can get a copy of your own by contacting Care Consultants at www.careconsultants.com or 402-488-3771 in Lincoln.

In addition to providing information and resources, Care Consultants also strives to meet respite and hospice needs. Care Consultants provides the whole gamut of caring from companionship to hospice care. Their registry consists of pre-screened professionals for whichever type of care is needed, whether it be 1 to 24 hours a day.  Nathan said Care Consultants finds caregivers who meet the needs of clients ensuring independent living while realizing how important it is to know the clients and how they like things done while ensuring safety and comfort.

Everyone deserves quality of life, according to Nathan, and she would like for people to be educated and know the options for loved ones.  As Nathan said, it’s OK to ask for help, and Care Consultants would love for people to use their services as one of the options for caring for elderly loved ones.
