Treatment of Substance Abuse
Treatment for a substance abuse addiction is a difficult but very worthwhile process. The treatment options for different types of substance addiction vary type and length depending on the substance. Treatment for methamphetamine or inhalant addiction, for example, can take significantly longer than treatment for tobacco addiction.
Programs that offer treatment for various types of substance abuse can also vary based on the addiction area they serve. Treatment options can range from a comprehensive substance abuse treatment center to the family and friends of a user developing a support group to help the user with his addiction. Treatment options also include medical detox centers, rapid detox centers, outpatient programs, and partial day hospitals. Each option offers the user a different level of schedule flexibility.
During treatment, the withdrawal symptoms the user may experience also vary a great deal ranging from nausea to seizures and death. The severity of withdrawal symptoms can also depend the length of time the user has been abusing the substance. For some substances there are currently pharmaceutical treatments, which help to ease the treatment period and lessen withdrawal symptoms.
