Suzy Campbell will be sharing about the Caregiver Organizer. It is a very valuable tool for caregivers where all the information can be organized so it is easily accessible. There are sections about contacts, personal info, medical, confidential, legal, end of life, resources, and tips and ideas. It is a three-ring binder so the sections may be moved around to make it more convenient and three-ring notepaper can be added as well for notes. There is a plastic sleeve for business cards and another for storing items such as notes, prescriptions, etc. It is very useful to take to doctor appointments and the emergency room. It is also useful for anyone caring for your loved one in your absence so they have the accurate information . It can also be useful for anyone living alone in case something happens and you aren’t able to share information. Suzy received a very generous donation so am able to provide a copy to an active family caregiver. A donation from anyone is always welcome. A donation of $12 prints another copy.

The Caregiver Organizer, A Beneficial Tool for Caregivers
Suzy Campbell, Caregivers’ Chicks
Suzy was a caregiver in the 70’s for her father the last six years of his life. Suzy added on to and updated her parents retirement home in a small village and moved there after her mother was killed in an automobile accident. Suzy didn’t work outside the home since Suzy was also caring for four young sons as well. Suzy also cared for her sister for a time before her death. Then much later Suzy became the caregiver for her husband for the last 16 years of his life. During this time he had nine surgeries so at times it was very intense. After her father’s passing Suzy went to work for Aging Partners and worked there for 28 years. When her husband’s health worsened, Suzy retired to care for him more intensely. During her caregiver journeys, Suzy learned a number of things the hard way. While at Aging Partners a group of five other family caregivers and Suzy formed what Suzy talked them into calling the “Caregiver Chicks.” We began meeting at one of the caregiver’s home since she couldn’t leave her mother alone. She had sticky notes on the fridge with phone numbers for doctors, etc. We decided to develop the Caregiver Organizer so the essential information about the recipient of care would be readily available. We also initiated a Caregiver Relief Fund at the Lincoln Community Foundation to assist family caregivers. Suzy still distributes the Organizers and participates in the Foundation’s Give to Lincoln Day to increase funding in the Caregiver Relief Fund. Suzy has a special place in her heart for family caregivers and heads up the Lincoln Caregiver Education Group. There are 13 professionals on the team. They have meetings for caregivers each month. Suzy line up presentations and facilitate the meetings. Suzy is also co-chair of the Nebraska Caregiver Coalition with 62 members across the State with a goal to provide access to resources, educational webinars, and advocate in the legislature for caregivers. Caregivers are special people to be commended.
This session is part of the Education Series for the Family Caregiver, hosted by The Nebraska Caregiver Coalition.
